The EMPHASIS Project

DISUSE MUSCLE ATROPHY | VETERANS | PATIENT-REPORTED DATA

The project, “Exercise and Monitoring for Post-Hospitalization Muscle Atrophy to Sustain Intrinsic Capacity and Strength” (The EMPHASIS Study), will be conducted at VA medical centers in Denver and Baltimore.


The EMPHASIS Study is funded by a four-year grant as part of the VA BLRD and CSRD Collaborative Merit Review Award program. 


The EMPHASIS Study will complement the aims of linked pre-clinical studies planned by the Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center on Aging and Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, and an associated clinical trial at the University of Utah


These linked studies will support the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs REMEDY Initiative, “Recovery of Aged Muscle After Disuse Atrophy
